Course Description

The Diploma in Disaster Management is a more in-depth program that delves into advanced concepts and strategies in disaster management. Participants will explore topics such as crisis leadership, resource management, and the socio-economic impacts of disasters. The program emphasizes practical skills, including incident command systems, risk mitigation, and recovery planning. 

Course Objectives

  • Equip learners with disaster response skills to effectively manage emergencies. 
  • Develop risk assessment capabilities to identify, analyze, and mitigate hazards in various environments. 
  • Enhance crisis management expertise by training students in coordination, communication, and decision-making. 
  • Strengthen humanitarian response knowledge to support disaster-affected communities through ethical and effective interventions. 
  • Prepare graduates for leadership roles in disaster management by fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 

Requirements

  • Minimum qualifications are KCSE C- or KCE Div. 2 or the equivalent or 3 years’ experience in Community Development activities.  
  • A certificate in disaster management, Emergency Medical technician, Community development, social development, social work, Community Health, Counseling and Psychology.  
  • Any other equivalent qualification as approved by KNEC
