Course Description

Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) is an advanced course designed for the registered nurse interested in increasing his/her knowledge in management of multiple trauma patients. 

 

Accredited by Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) 

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this Program, the nurse should: 

  1. Have clear concepts and principles of primary and secondary patient assessment; 
  2. Be able to establish management priorities in a trauma situation; and 
  3. Be aware of the importance of a standardized team approach in trauma care, understand the ATLS common language and perform properly as a team member when managing multiple trauma patients. 
  4. Assess the patient’s condition rapidly and accurately 
  5. Resuscitate and stabilize the patient according to priority 
  6. Determine if the patient’s needs exceed a facility’s capabilities 
  7. Arrange appropriate definitive care for patients 

Requirements

  1. A valid nursing license (RN or equivalent)
  2. Basic life support (BLS) certification (recommended)
  3. Experience in emergency, trauma, or critical care nursing (preferred)
